Bio

Hafiz Saqib Ali is a Research Associate in the Department of Pure & Applied Chemistry at the University of Strathclyde and GSK. He previously held a postdoctoral research position from 2022 to 2026 at the INEOS Oxford Institute for Antimicrobial Research (IOI), University of Oxford. Prior to this, he was a postdoctoral researcher from 2021 to 2022 with Dr Amanda Jarvis in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Edinburgh. He completed his PhD in 2021 at the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology, University of Manchester. During his PhD, he worked with Dr Richard Henchman and co-supervisored by Prof. Samuel de Visser at the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology, where he worked on the Development and Implementation of Algorithms to Determine the Reaction Kinetics and Stability of Biomolecules. He is also a recipient of the prestigious Chief Minister Merit Scholarship from the Government of Punjab, Pakistan, which was awarded to support his PhD studies. He received an M.Phil. in Physical and Theoretical Chemistry at the Govt. College University Faisalabad on Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF) from Government of Punjab, Pakistan and a BS (hons) in Chemistry at the Govt. College University Faisalabad on Higher Education Commission's (HEC) merit Scholarship, Government of Pakistan.


Research Timeline

2026: I started as a Research Associate position in the Department of Pure & Applied Chemistry, University of Strathclyde and GSK with Prof. David Palmer.

2022: I started as a postdoctoral research associate position in the INEOS Oxford Institute for Antimicrobial Research (IOI), at the University of Oxford with Prof. Christopher Schofield and Prof. Fernanda Duarte.

2021: I started my first job as a computational postdoctoral research associate with Dr Amanda Jarvis, in the School of Chemistry, The University of Edinburgh.

2021: I graduated with a PhD degree in Theoretical and Computational Chemistry from the University of Manchester.

2018: I started my PhD program in February at the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology, the University of Manchester!

2017: I won a prestigious Chief Minister Merit Scholarship from the Government of Punjab, Pakistan, enabling me to pursue my PhD at one of the Top 50 Universities in the world.

2015-2017: I received my MPhil degree in Physical Chemistry at the Government College University Faisalabad, Punjab, Pakistan. I was honoured to receive PEEF Scholarship for my master studies (2015-2017) from Government of Panjab, Pakistan.

2011-15: As an undergraduate, I graduated from Government College University Faisalabad with a major in Physical Chemistry and minors in Zoology and Botany. Additionally, I was awarded a Higher Education Commission Merit Scholarship for my four years of undergraduate studies.
